The 2004 Ford Explorer has its starter located on the right side of the engine, above the oil pan, attached to the flywheel housing. To remove the starter, begin by opening the hood and securing it. Next, disconnect the negative cable from the battery to cut off electricity. Then, crawl underneath the vehicle to locate the starter. Disconnect the wires attached to the side, followed by removing the four bolts holding the housing. It's important to be careful as the bolts securing the wires can be fragile. Once the bolts are removed, the starter can be taken out easily. When installing a new starter, simply reverse the above steps, starting with the mounting bolts.
The starter is situated underneath the engine on the left side for the driver. It is positioned lower and toward the back relative to the Alternator's location.
You can locate the starter beneath the vehicle's engine, close to the transmission.
