The 2013 Chevy Captiva thermostat is situated on the coolant line towards the lower rear part of the engine. It is responsible for regulating the flow of coolant from the engine, directing it either through the heater core or back to the radiator based on the HVAC settings. If the thermostat gets stuck closed, it can lead to engine overheating as coolant doesn't circulate back to the radiator for cooling. Conversely, if it gets stuck open, you might observe rough engine performance because it doesn't reach the optimal operating temperature. Typically, a check engine light will illuminate on your dashboard to alert you about any thermostat-related issues detected by the ECU.
Check the back of the engine near the transmission to find the thermostat.
