The 2008 Cadillac CTS's crankshaft position sensor is situated on the right side of the engine, just below or at the valve cover to cylinder head seal line, which is by the belt side of the engine. It can be found underneath the power steering pump at the back of the engine. Its main function is to track the camshaft's position relative to the crankshaft. This information is then transmitted to the powertrain control module to help regulate the fuel injector and ignition system for effective fuel injection and combustion. If you suspect a faulty sensor, watch out for signs like the check engine light coming on, difficulties starting the vehicle or failure to start, and the car surging or jerking during acceleration.
