Find the EGR valve on the driver's side of the engine in a 2009 Toyota Corolla. Most of these valves look like metallic mushrooms and are typically 2 to 3 inches in size. The exhaust gas recirculation valve, or EGR valve, is crucial for managing the engine in the vehicle. It works by redirecting controlled amounts of exhaust gas back into the engine intake system to enhance efficiency, save fuel, and reduce NOx emissions. If the EGR valve is faulty, it can hinder the flow and operation of the EGR system, leading to issues such as power loss, slower acceleration, and decreased fuel economy. Soot particles, carbon buildup, and fuel residues can cause the EGR valve to get stuck either 'open' or 'closed'.
On a 2009 Toyota Corolla, you can find the EGR valve inside the engine bay.
