In a 2011 Ford Escape, you can locate the oil filter at the oil pan towards the front of the vehicle. It is a standard metal filter that screws onto the underside of the engine. It's important to replace the filter every time you change the oil in your Escape. Using new oil with an old, dirty filter can allow the fresh oil to collect contaminants, which could circulate through the engine. When installing the new filter, make sure to tighten it by hand only and avoid over-tightening it. The filter will go through heat cycles along with the engine, and if it's too tight, it may become stuck.
