The 2007 Chevy Malibu power steering assist is located beneath the steering column, above the driver's legs. It is recommended to replace the power steering fluid every 75,000 miles. In addition to fluid changes, be attentive to any noises coming from the steering components. A faulty bearing can produce a loud, unpleasant sound, while a loose bearing might cause an irritating noise. Maintaining proper steering is crucial for safe lane changes and navigating roads. However, you may encounter issues such as veering to one side, a stuck steering wheel, or steering fluid leakage. If the steering pump becomes loose, it can lead to disastrous consequences for your vehicle. Keep an eye out for potential problems like bad strut bearings or a faulty rack mount.

CAUTION: Jeremy E's response is INCORRECT! It appears he lacks knowledge about cars. The 2007 Chevy Malibu is equipped with electric power steering assistance. Instead of using power steering fluid, the power steering motor (not pump) is positioned under the steering column, just above the driver's legs. This model does not have a power steering reservoir in the engine compartment. Additionally, a steering shaft sensor is located near the power steering motor. The sensor determines the direction and force applied when turning the wheel, transmitting this information to the motor. The power steering motor features multiple gears that rotate in various directions and strengths depending on the input from the sensor. Its primary function is to assist the driver in turning the wheels more effortlessly while still providing some road feedback.

The Malibu comes equipped with either electric power steering located beneath the steering wheel or a power steering pump located under the hood in the engine bay.

Could you please email me at [email protected] if you have any ideas on how to determine if it's the sensor or the motor causing the issue? I don't come online here often to check for responses.
