For the Toyota Echo (and early Toyota Yaris models), you can spot the starter in front of the engine when looking through the engine bay. To properly access it, though, you'll need to lift the vehicle and reach it from underneath. Make sure the car is safely lifted on jack stands or a car lift before going beneath it, as even though the Echo is small compared to other cars, it can still pose a crush hazard. Additionally, remember to disconnect the negative battery terminal before doing any electrical work. Once you're ready, remove a plastic cover to reach the starter (you'll recognize it from seeing its location through the engine bay). From there, it's just a matter of swapping out the old starter for a new one if that's your goal.
The starter of a Toyota Echo is positioned at the front of the engine, nestled between the engine and the radiator unit.
Thanks for telling me where I can find the starter for the 2001 Toyota Echo!
