The starter in a 2007 Ford Escape is located above the oil filter and beside the A/C compressor on the left side of the engine, near the driver. It can be tricky to access, as you'll have to take out the air filter, battery, battery tray, and water hose heater to reach it. Don't forget to disconnect the starter wires. The nuts to release the heater tubing are hidden behind a plastic air vent below the turbo. Replacing the starter can cost between $50 and $80, depending on whether you choose an OEM or aftermarket part.
