In the 2017 Chevy Malibu, the throttle position sensor is located on the right side of the engine, attached to the throttle body beneath the air filter housing. This sensor monitors and regulates the air intake the engine receives. It is typically placed on the butterfly spindle/shaft to directly manage throttle movement. Issues like debris, carbon buildup, and dirt accumulation in the airflow can lead to throttle body failure, a condition known as coking that obstructs airflow and causes engine imbalance. Symptoms of a faulty throttle body sensor include erratic idling, engine stalling, hesitation during acceleration, and occasional activation of limp mode.
