The 2004 Chevy Silverado did not come with a cabin air filter installed at the factory. However, there are aftermarket kits available to retrofit a cabin air filter into it. To do so, you will require a 7-millimeter socket and ratchet to remove the three bolts securing the cover over the HVAC housing. Once the cover is removed, you can easily locate where the cabin air filter should be placed, but the access panel is molded into the housing and will need to be cut out to accommodate a filter. You can use a utility blade or a tool similar to a Dremel to cut through the plastic in order for the filter to fit properly.
The 2004 Silverado's cabin air filter can be found behind the glove box. To reach it, you will have to completely take out the glove box.
The 2003-2004 Z71 Avalanche model does not come equipped with an interior cabin air filter. Save yourself the hassle of taking out the glove box.
