As per the manual for the 2018 Honda Pilot, you can locate the D4 button next to the gear shifter on the left side. To activate D4, simply press the button while the shifter is in the D position. This feature is designed for use when driving on inclines. When engaged, it prevents the transmission from shifting into higher gears and holds the gears in place when you release the gas pedal. If you notice frequent shifting of the transmission while driving, you should be using D4. Additionally, the vehicle has a Hill Start Assist System that keeps the brakes engaged until you switch from the brake to the accelerator to prevent the car from rolling. To activate this system, select D, D4, S, or L when going uphill, and R when going downhill, then release the brake.
