The 2014 Lexus GS350 needs SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil, but in a pinch, you could possibly use SAE 5W-40 conventional oil temporarily. It's not ideal though, since the 5W-40 oil has poorer viscosity and breaks down faster. The numbers on the oil indicate viscosity at start-up (5) and operating temperature (30 or 40), with lower numbers being better. So, it's worth spending a bit more for the 5W-30 oil to keep your engine running efficiently and lasting longer. You might even see some extra miles per tank of gas.
