As an American, if you drive a Volkswagen Passat, you may have faced the challenge of stopping for gasoline but struggling to locate the release button or lever for the fuel tank. The reason you can't find it is because it's not there. Opening the gas door on your vehicle is actually quite simple. Step out of your car and position yourself in front of the fuel door. Use your fingertips to press firmly on the small square door that covers the fuel tank. Focus on the lower right corner when you press. The door should pop open once it depresses. Then, just unscrew the cap, insert the nozzle, and you're good to go.
The car needs to be started up before driving.
Is it possible to secure the gas door on a 2021 VW Passat R-Line after filling up the tank? I don't have the owner's manual as I am using a loaner car from the dealership.
In a 2020 Volkswagen Passat, you won't find a button or switch to open the gas tank. Instead, you just need to push on the cap to make it pop open.
Can you tell me the location of the gas lever on a 2008 Passat wagon?
My 2016 Passat's fuel tank won't unlock. Usually, I can just press it open after unlocking the door, but now it's not functioning. What could be causing this issue?
Ensure that your vehicle is unlocked, otherwise the gas door will remain inaccessible.
The 2018 Passat needs you to push on the LEFT part of the cover rather than the right. AI CHAT got it mixed up.
Debbie, the gas flap on a 2021 Passat no longer locks with the remote, as per the dealer. This means it's always accessible to strangers. I recommend getting a locking screw-on gas cap as a solution. Interestingly, the 2018 Passat's gas flap locks when the car is locked. It's puzzling why VW removed this feature. I own both cars, and I hope this information benefits others.
