The 2006 Chevy Avalanche takes SAE 5W-30 motor oil. When changing the oil, ensure the car has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to avoid getting burned from hot oil. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the engine. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain into the pan. Let it drain completely, which could take about an hour. Reinstall the drain plug once done, then find the fill port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to fill the oil pan to the full mark, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to be a bit under the full mark, but overfilling may cause leaks and oil burning. Close the fill port, clean up any spills, and you're done.
The Chevy Avalanche from 2006 requires SAE 5W-30 motor oil for optimal performance.
