The type of oil needed for the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 depends on the engine size: 5W-30 Synthetic is recommended for the 4.3 L V6, while both the 5.3 L V8 and 6.2 L V8 engines require 0W-20 Synthetic. The truck's oil capacity is 6 quarts with a filter for the 4.3 L V6, and 8 quarts with a filter for the 5.3 L V8 and 6.2 L V8 engines. The drain plug should be torqued to 18 ft/lbs for all versions. Remember, oil needs to be changed regularly - aim for every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
My truck has 130,000 miles on it, and my dad suggested switching from 0W-20 to 5W-30 oil due to the high mileage. I disagreed with him. Should I trust his advice?
The 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 runs on full synthetic oil. For the 4.3L V6, it requires SAE 5W-30, while both V8 engines need SAE 0W-20. The V6 engine can hold up to 6 quarts of oil, whereas the 5.3L V8 and the 6.2L V8 have an oil capacity of 8 quarts each.
I received a prompt and precise response, which I greatly appreciate. Thank you very much.
8 quarts of OW20 synthetic oil is equivalent to approximately 7.571 liters.
It's great to see such a prompt response, way to go!
Just because it recommends 0w20 oil doesn't mean you have to use it. I suggest following your dad's advice and adding 5w30 oil which is slightly thicker and offers better protection, especially for a high mileage vehicle like yours. Your dad seems to know his stuff!
A total of 5 pounds equals 2 gallons.
The 5.3-liter engine requires 8 quarts of 0W-20 motor oil. I always opt for full synthetic oil.
