For the 2013 model of the Kia Soul, all the years and engines utilize a timing chain except for the 2.0L Beta II engine in the 2009 to 2014 models, which employs a timing belt. Unlike the timing belt that may require replacement, the timing chain is typically not replaced due to its internal location within the engine, while the belt is external and exposed. The belt also benefits from engine oil for lubrication. In cases of complete failure, the chain may need replacement, which can cost around $70 to $130 for the parts alone.
