In the 2015 Acura RDX, the 3.5L V6 engine is run by a timing belt that Acura suggests changing every 75,000 to 100,000 miles to prevent wear and tear. Neglecting to replace it could result in the belt failing, which can be extremely dangerous at high speeds, potentially causing serious injuries or even loss of life. On the other hand, timing chains are generally considered more durable for the long haul, usually lasting up to 250,000 to 300,000 miles or the entire lifespan of the vehicle. But, the advantage of timing belts is that they are cheaper to replace. If a timing chain fails, it could cost you over $3,000 for repairs, not to mention any additional engine damage incurred during the process.
