In 2015, Honda made a switch from using a timing belt to a timing chain in their Civic model. Traditionally, Honda had utilized timing belts in Civic models from 1995 to 2005. The shift to timing chains was likely influenced by the fact that chains are designed to last the entire lifespan of the vehicle, eliminating the need for frequent replacements like with belts. Timing belts typically need to be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, whereas a timing chain only requires periodic inspection around every 150,000 miles. The durability of the chain is attributed to its location inside the engine, unlike the belt which is exposed on the outside.
The 2015 Honda Civic comes equipped with a timing chain instead of a timing belt.
The timing chain in the 2015 Honda Civic is compatible with Civic models from 2006 onwards.
The 4-cylinder engine uses a chain, while the 6-cylinder engine uses a belt.
