The 2018 Toyota Tacoma is unique in that it does not offer a CVT transmission. Instead, drivers have the option of choosing either an automatic transmission or, in the case of the V6 4X4 model, a manual transmission. This decision is likely to be well-received by DIY enthusiasts, who often find CVT transmissions difficult to service themselves. While Toyota has been incorporating CVT transmissions into many of its recent models like the RAV4, Corolla, Camry, C-HR, Yaris, and iQ, the Tacoma has stayed true to its roots. Perhaps because it is considered Toyota's tough and dependable workhorse truck, the Tacoma continues to be equipped with a more robust and reliable type of transmission.
The 2018 Toyota Tacoma does not come equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Instead, it offers the option of pairing each engine with a six-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). Additionally, the V6 engine can also be matched with a 6-speed manual transmission.
