In the lineup of 2001 Honda CR-V models across the SRX trim levels, they all run on the same 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. This engine requires 4.01 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. Although you can use SAE 5W-40 conventional oil in a pinch, it's not recommended. Even though the conventional oil is cheaper, its viscosity at operating temperature is lower, causing the engine to work harder for the same performance. This decreased efficiency can result in premature wear on engine parts due to increased friction, leading to potential problems in the future. Investing in the slightly pricier 5W-30 synthetic oil might cost more upfront, but it will save you from trouble in the long run.
The 2001 Honda CR-V with its regular 2.0L inline-4 engine needs 4 quarts of 5W30 synthetic motor oil for optimal performance.
