The XX model features a timing chain that requires less maintenance compared to a belt. The chain synchronizes the timing of the intake and exhaust valves, as well as the firing of the cylinders by connecting the crankshaft to the camshaft. The crankshaft moves the pistons while the camshaft controls the valve operations. If the timing is disrupted, the engine's performance deteriorates, leading to misfiring, decreased accelerator response, and potential starting issues. Moreover, there is a risk of severe engine damage if a piston collides with a valve, which can occur due to a stretched chain or a broken gear cog throwing off the timing.
