The 2011 Subaru Forester requires either OW-20 or 5W-30 oil, with a capacity of 4.4 quarts. Using high-quality oil is crucial for ensuring the engine operates smoothly. Neglecting proper maintenance of the oil can lead to various problems such as engine knocking noises, engine failure, and a strong burning smell. This should be addressed promptly to prevent any potential accidents. Additionally, you may notice a decrease in gas mileage if the oil is not changed regularly. It is recommended to replace the oil every 5,000 to 10,000 miles to avoid any issues with the engine's performance.
can my 2011 Subaru that is not turbocharged utilize 10W-30 synthetic oil? I don't have access to 0W-20 where I live.
For the 2011 Subaru Forester, the non-turbo version should use 0W-20 oil while the turbo models should use 5W-30. If you can't find 5W-30 synthetic oil, you can temporarily use 5W-30 or 5W-40 conventional oil, but make sure to switch back to 5W-30 synthetic oil at the next oil change. The non-turbo models need 5.5 US quarts (5.3 liters) of oil, while the turbo models require 4.4 US quarts (4.2 liters).
