The 2008 Ford Explorer 5R55S does not have a transmission dipstick for checking the fluid level. The transmission is sealed, and Ford advises that it does not require regular maintenance.
So, when it stops working, you have to replace it rather than just performing maintenance on it.
I get my car's fluid replaced every 75,000 miles, even though it basically runs perfectly fine without maintenance. I'm just being cautious in case the fluid deteriorates over time.
