Many F-150 owners choose to replace the power steering pump of their Ford truck once it starts making a "whining" noise and losing effectiveness. Start by unclipping the clamps on the intake hoses and loosening the serpentine belt pulley with a 15 mm wrench turning it counterclockwise. Use a special tool to loosen the pulley around the pump assembly. Position a drain pan under the truck and unscrew the pressure-side power steering line from the PSP. Release the second hose of the assembly and remove the pump from its bracket by unbolting it. Complete the process by draining the power steering fluid from the reservoir. Install the new power steering pump by using the three mounting bolts that you previously removed, and be sure to replace the o-rings in the power steering lines when reattaching them.
