You should top up the system with more refrigerant. There is an access point located underneath the hood. The recharge kit you purchase will come with instructions. Just follow those and you'll be all set.

To recharge the air conditioning in a Dodge Nitro, you need to first lift the hood and secure it in place. Find the air conditioning control port located on the tube connecting the compressor and evaporator. Attach the R-134a hose to a canister of the same type of refrigerant and start the engine while turning the air conditioner to its maximum setting. Check the gauge attached to the hose and slowly open the valve, monitoring the indicator closely. Allow the needle to move until it reaches the green area on the dial.
