If the SVC tire light is illuminated on the dash of your 2008 Chevy Cobalt, you should reset it after inspecting the tires. Start by making sure the tires are adequately inflated and match the recommended pressures indicated on the decal located in the driver's side door. Once you've confirmed the proper inflation, you can reset the tire monitoring system to turn off the light. Begin by switching the vehicle to the on position with the engine off and lowering the driver's side window. Press the odometer button until "LEARN TIRE PRESSURES" appears on the screen. Then, press and hold the odometer button until you hear a horn chirp, signaling that the reset is complete, and you're good to go.
To successfully reset the tire pressure monitoring system on your car, ensure each tire has at least 60 pounds of pressure by visiting a location with excess air pressure. Once all tires meet this requirement, proceed by entering the car and navigating to the tire service menu. Hold down the select button for 10 seconds; if the reading does not change, switch the menu back to normal and turn off the engine. Turn the key to the on position, with the radio off, and confirm all tires are above 60 psi. Starting from the front driver's side, release air slowly until you hear one beep, then move on to the front passenger, back passenger, and back driver sides, repeating the process. On the final tire, release air until you hear two beeps to confirm it has reached the correct pressure. Turn the car off and on five times, starting the engine on the last attempt. This method should successfully reset the system.
