To swap out the heater core in a 2006 Ford Freestar, you'll need a variety of tools such as 7mm, 8mm, 11mm, and 13mm sockets, a T45 torxBit, screwdrivers, ratchets, and 15mm and 10mm wrenches. Before beginning the job, make sure to disconnect the battery and deactivate the supplemental restraint system to prevent accidents. Next, turn the key in the ignition to release the steering wheel lock. Start by removing the windshield washer hoses and reservoir, as they obstruct access. As you progress, expect to remove bolts and other components to ultimately reach the heater core.
