To take off the back hatch panel of the 2015 Ford Escape, you'll need just a few tools and a couple of minutes. Grab a Philips screwdriver, a 7mm socket, a 10mm socket, and a ratchet. Start by unscrewing the 7mm hex screws on the corners of the hatch. Then, locate two 10mm nuts near the interior of the handle. Take off these nuts, but there's no need to disconnect the electrical connector attached to the handle. After that, the only thing keeping the rear hatch panel in place are two plastic clips; you can squeeze them gently with pliers or vise grips, or you can usually release them by hand. Once the clips are disengaged, you should be able to remove the hatch panel easily.
On a 2015 escape hatch panel, you won't find any Phillips screws - instead, there are 2 torx screws located under a cover in the handle. The panel is mainly secured with metal clips, making it easy to remove by pulling it off. Just watch out for the connection to the automatic lift gate button to avoid any mishaps.
Raise the hood initially, then unscrew all the Phillips head screws on the panel using a screwdriver. Begin to lower the panel, but it won't completely come out until you open the window and unlock the rest of the panel. Once the top of the panel is freed, you should be able to slide it out.
