Brake pads and shoes should be changed every 50,000 miles, while brake rotors should be replaced every 60,000 miles. It is advised to replace brake fluid every 20,000 to 45,000 miles to ensure optimal brake performance. Maintaining your brakes in good condition is essential to prevent potential issues. Faulty brakes can lead to problems like ineffective stops, caused by loose bearings or screeching sounds due to low brake fluid levels. Brake malfunctions can even result in brake lock-ups, leading to accidents. Addressing premature brake wear, such as worn brake pads, is crucial in ensuring the vehicle stops safely and effectively.
It can be a bit tricky at first. To start, remove the wheel, brake caliper, and caliper bracket. Then, uninstall the 5 or 6 T55 hex bolts at the hub's center to release the rotor. You might need to tap the rotor to loosen it. After that, rotate the hub slightly, check through the holes to spot and remove the 5 T50 hex bolts holding the hub and bearing assembly to the control arm. Once these are out, you can remove the rotor for replacement. It took some help from a friend to figure it out, as he recognized it from a similar setup on his truck.
