In order to access the modules and electrical components in the 2012 Ford Escape's dashboard, it may be necessary to remove the dash. Beginning by disconnecting the battery and turning on the headlights is recommended. When dealing with airbags, it is crucial to completely drain the power from the vehicle. For removing the airbag from the driver's side, a 5.5mm socket is required. The steering wheel can be removed using a 24mm socket, and the cover can be detached with a torX20 bit. To remove the dash panel behind the odometer cluster, unclip it and unscrew one bolt located to the left of the driver's knee. Lastly, the kick panel can be taken off using a 16mm socket.
This process of removing the dash involves multiple steps, and although taking off the steering wheel is possible, it is not necessary.
