Here's a detailed guide on how to take out the rear axle of your 2005 Ford Escape. Begin by taking off the rear coil spring and then removing the nut on the rear wheel hub. Next, detach the anti-lock brake sensor harness from the body retainer bolt. Hold the wheel knuckle as you take off the nut and disconnect the lower ball joint. Remove the four bolts on the differential housing bracket, followed by removing the brackets and the nut and bolt holding the differential mount to the subframe. Now, you'll have to use a halfshaft remover tool to separate the halfshaft from the differential. Then, utilize a front hub remover to detach the halfshaft from the rear axle hub assembly. Finally, you'll be able to remove the halfshaft.
