In 2019, it's not easy to turn off the auto start-stop feature on a GMC Terrain. GMC introduced the system to boost fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, so there's no official way to deactivate it. A workaround is to pop the hood, start the engine, and then close the hood so the vehicle keeps running. Some aftermarket devices are available to fool the SUV's computer system, but GMC doesn't support or endorse these products.

You can switch to neutral and then press the L button until it changes to L7. This will bring it to a stop if the circle on the dashboard is not available.

The automatic engine stop function is only active when the vehicle is in Drive (D). If you shift to Neutral (N) or utilize the manual shift mode (L), the auto stop will be deactivated.
