To access the gas tank on a BMW 7 Series in the United States, start by unlocking the car. Once it’s unlocked, go to the fuel tank door and push it in to release the spring mechanism and open the door. Then, take off the fuel cap. When replacing the cap, turn it until you hear a click, and then close the door. More and more vehicles are transitioning to a simple system where you push in the door to open it, rather than using a separate button or lever.

Two weeks ago, I bought a brand-new 740i. Today, when I tried to fuel it up for the second time, I had trouble opening the gas tank door. I contacted BMW customer support and tried everything over the phone, but nothing worked. Roadside assistance is on its way to either open the door or tow the car. It's frustrating that a $100,000 car is giving me such a hard time with a simple task like opening the gas tank cover.

On the BMW 7 Series, you can open the gas tank using a button located either near the gas tank or on the console dash inside the vehicle.
