The stereo in the 2019 Subaru Outback is part of its multiMedia navigation system. Owners like the 8-inch display, but they find the automatic radio feature frustrating. When you turn off the stereo by pressing the volume control button on the center display, it doesn't completely shut down but rather goes into sleep mode. This means the navigation and radio screen will go black, and the stereo will be quiet. However, when you restart the vehicle, the radio will automatically play at the volume it was set to before turning it off. There isn't a clear way to fully power off the Outback's stereo, but you can either turn the volume knob all the way to zero or preset the satellite to channel 0, which is a silent channel.
