In the 2005 Kia Sorento, there is a single catalytic converter positioned in the exhaust line. Placed after the headers and before the rear section of the exhaust, this component is crucial for purifying exhaust fumes before they are released into the air. It plays a significant role in the vehicle's environmental regulation system. If your catalytic converter is failing, a check engine light may illuminate due to higher-than-normal emission levels detected by the O2 sensors. Always opt for a new catalytic converter when replacing it, as the wear on used ones can be unpredictable.
The 2003 to 2005 Kia Sorento is equipped with a total of three catalytic converters. Two of them are round cast iron converters mounted on the manifold, while the third one is a flat oval-rectangular converter situated underneath the vehicle. While it may seem like there's only one visible converter, there are actually three converters in total.
