The 2005 GMC Canyon originally came with a 2.8 L 4-cylinder engine, but they also offered an upgrade option for a 3.5L 5-cylinder engine. The standard engine requires 5 US quarts of oil, while the larger 3.5L engine needs 6 US quarts for a complete fill-up, including the filter. Both engine types must use synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. To prevent engine damage, it's recommended to get an oil change every 7,500 miles. If you decide to do the oil change yourself, expect to spend between $30 and $45 on oil.
