The 2006 Nissan Xterra 4.0L requires 5.375 quarts of oil. To start an oil change on the vehicle, ensure that the car has been turned off and parked for a few hours to allow the engine to cool down. Look for the oil pan in the engine compartment and locate the drain plug underneath. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to let the oil drain into the pan. Let it drain completely, which might take about an hour. Once it has stopped dripping, reattach the drain plug. Find the intake port on top of the oil pan and use a funnel to fill it with oil up to the full mark, making sure not to overfill. It's okay to go a bit under, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn off. Once it's full, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and then you're done.
