If your Toyota Land Cruiser is making a whining noise, the power steering pump could be the culprit. Low fluid levels can cause the pump to whine, so it's important to check the fluid level and top it up to the recommended fill line. If the pump goes bad, it can also produce noise. You can test if it's the power steering pump by turning the wheel while the car is stationary – if the noise gets louder as you turn, then it's likely the power steering pump causing the issue. While other engine accessories will adjust their sound based on RPM, only the power steering pump will change with RPM or wheel movement.
If you hear a high-pitched sound coming from your Toyota Land Cruiser, chances are that the power steering pump is the usual suspect when it comes to the source of the noise.
