The heads-up display in the BMW X5 is known to have intermittent failures. If this is the case for you, with it working on and off, there is no current diagnosis or solution other than replacing it entirely. Many drivers have taken their vehicles to a dealership but they have been unable to replicate or fix the problem. If your HUD is never working, there isn't much you can do to fix it, so it will require a total replacement. The positive side is that while the replacement module can be costly, especially for newer BMW X5s, the actual process of replacing it should not take too long. It is relatively simple and could be done in just a long afternoon or two at most.
