Is it possible to enhance the Safety Connect Feature's 3G network to 4G or 5G in order to prevent my service from being discontinued in 2022?

Regrettably, Lexus does not offer a way to upgrade the Safety Connect service to 4G or 5G due to limitations in the built-in hardware. Simply updating the software will not enable compatibility with these networks. Lexus lacks influence over the telecommunication companies driving the transition to newer LTE technologies. Expect the discontinuation of Lexus Enform Safety Connect and related services like Remote and Destination Assist by October 31, 2022, at 11:59 PM CST. This change will affect all Lexus models from 2010 through 2017 and the Lexus GX from 2018.

This situation is unacceptable. It's ridiculous for Lexus to claim they had no control over the issue. They chose to use low-quality parts in a luxury vehicle, while other car companies found solutions. Toyota prioritized profits over customer satisfaction.

My third and final Lexus. I wish they had warned me about this when we made the purchase.

I support the opinions shared. Is there anyone who wants to consider filing a collective legal action against Lexus/Toyota to prompt them to address the issue, which has also resulted in a decrease in the resale value of these vehicles?

We could have upgraded the hardware, which would have prolonged the vehicle's lifespan. But instead, we chose not to do the upgrade, opting to encourage customers to buy a new vehicle. It was a straightforward business decision in the end.

I agree with the previous commenter. When I bought my 2017 Lexus RX 350 in September 2017, I wasn't informed that there were limitations on upgrades. This is my second Lexus; the first one was a 2001 RX 300 that I loved so much I bought a similar vehicle, but this time opting for the top-of-the-line model for over $60,000! I intended for this to be my long-term vehicle for the next 17 years. However, now that I've discovered the lack of upgrade options (Volkswagen is providing this for free to their customers!), including safety features that the costly Lexus Enform service offers, I am contemplating switching to a different car brand. Lexus, it's crucial that you address this issue promptly before losing a significant number of customers!

I am in agreement with those who have decided to never buy another Lexus.

Lexes made a really bad decision. I thought they could do much better!

This is awful! I only have 4 months left to pay off my car. I was looking forward to getting a new Lexus in two years, but not anymore! I can't believe you're promoting Lexus purchases when some features don't work properly. Subaru managed to do it, so why couldn't you?

I, along with others, have decided to stop buying Lexus vehicles. As a loyal owner of 4 Lexuses who has always been satisfied, I am now disappointed and find the situation unacceptable. Despite paying a premium for safety features, I feel constrained as a consumer and can only express my frustration by choosing not to support Lexus any longer. Lexus, this lack of customer service is truly disappointing.

A cell phone-compatible remote starter can be installed in any car, no matter how old it is. Just swap out or upgrade the antenna, and that should solve the problem. Lexus ought to provide a solution for this. I'm open to paying for the enhancement.

I purchased my 2017 ES350 in late 2016 with the intention of it being my long-term vehicle. I am very frustrated with Lexus for not upgrading to 4G. As I frequently travel alone, the safety feature is essential for my peace of mind. I expect top-tier quality from their vehicles.

This amounts to deceptive marketing and deceitful practices. There should be a collective legal action taken against Lexus/Toyota to compel a recall and improvement.

  • Ed S.

I'm sorry to say that Lexus did not live up to my expectations. I believe there should be a hardware upgrade available for purchase at the very least.

  • Jean J.

This is absolutely ridiculous! I'm getting rid of my car and will never purchase from Lexus in the future. They prioritize saving money over their customers. I'm driving a $43,000 vehicle that feels basic, and I demand a refund.

That's totally absurd and not okay at all. It's unbelievable that a company known for its top-notch quality and excellent customer service would allow this to happen. Lexus must figure out a solution to upgrade the affected hardware - it seems like many of us would be happy to pay for the necessary update.

I completely concur with the sentiment shared by all present. I had higher hopes for Lexus, so it is disheartening to witness other car brands successfully addressing this issue while Lexus remains inactive. It feels like a ploy to push consumers into buying a new vehicle. The concern is, will the same problem arise with their upcoming models? The sense of trust in this company has dwindled. All we seek is a resolution for the features we specifically selected when purchasing our cars; we paid for them, after all.

My initial and final Lexus. It is not acceptable for a luxury brand like this to fail in assisting owners with this problem.

I own a 2017 GX460 luxury SUV with all the latest features, like a rear seat entertainment system, but it doesn't have a remote starter. They should provide us with the option to start our cars remotely. Lexus, if you're not progressing, out of frustration, I will purchase a vehicle from a rival company.

  • Peter V.

This is terrible!!!! Why would they remove these features after we purchased the car with them!!!!! Totally not okay!!!!!

  • Reina Cisneros

We recently bought a Lexus GX460 and we were never informed about this change. If we had known, we would have chosen a different model. It's unacceptable that they didn't disclose this information to us unless it can be changed later on.

I've been trying to solve this 3G issue for the past year. It's frustrating that both Lexus and Toyota have been aware of this problem for a long time. Yet, nothing has been done about it. They just point fingers at the cell phone companies, which is unfair. I'm astounded by their lack of concern for our safety.

  • Courtney D.

We have owned two Lexus vehicles so far. Our latest model, the 2018 GX460, doesn't even allow us to remotely start the car using the key fob. This experience has led us to say farewell to Lexus as a brand.

  • Simon R.

I'm a dissatisfied Lexus owner. I bought my first 350IS in 2016 as a retirement present, but I'm extremely let down. I won't consider purchasing from Lexus again. Absolutely unacceptable, right?

  • Bonita C

I can't believe no one has developed a 4G device that connects to the OBD II port using an access point!

  • Leonor C.

I purchased a new ES 350 back in 2017 primarily because of the reputation of Lexus for reliability, as well as the additional features that are now no longer available due to their refusal to address the 3g problem. I am frustrated that I spent so much money on this car, only for it to not include many of the features I paid for. I had planned on buying another Lexus in the future, but after this experience, I won't be returning as a customer. Goodbye, Lexus.

  • Joanne S

My initial and final experience with Lexus showed me that the company pays minimal attention to their customers, except when it comes to taking advantage of them.

  • Elliott

Final Lexus! I agree with the group comments provided!

  • Malisa K

Lexus needs to provide everyone with an upgrade to 5G.
