Most Nissan Sentras produced in the past three decades come equipped with a timing chain. Nissan hasn't used a timing belt in the Sentra since the late 1980s. Having a chain means you won't need to worry about the upkeep required with a timing belt. Chains typically last as long as your engine does, unlike belts that can dry out and fail over time. Although chains may be pricier to make and fix, they are durable components that should stay reliable for years to come.

I recently purchased a 2022 Sentra SV, marking my 4th Sentra since 1990. All my previous three vehicles had timing chains, and I strongly believe this new one also features a chain. This is one of the reasons why I decided to stick with Nissan. The last Sentra I owned was a 2011 model, reaching 200,000 miles without any issues with the chain.

I get that it uses a chain instead of a belt, and I've heard that it's a smart move to replace the water pumps at the same time (or vice versa?).
