The 2018 Toyota Highlander is equipped with a backup camera that includes sensors for front and rear parking assistance. The system emits a beeping sound when you are in reverse and nearing obstacles. If the sensors or camera are malfunctioning, there are troubleshooting steps to follow. If the sensors are not working, they may need to be replaced. In the case of a failed camera, you can check the fuse box located by the steering wheel. Look to the left of the steering wheel to identify a small seam or crack on the dashboard. Use a screwdriver or prybar to open this panel. Inside, you will find various fuses. The back of the panel will display a diagram indicating the purpose of each fuse. If the fuse diagram is not on the panel, consult the owner's manual for the vehicle. Once you determine the faulty fuse, remove it. A working fuse will have a connected strip of metal between the two raised sections. If this strip is broken, the fuse is defective and must be replaced. If the strip is intact, reinstall the fuse. Replacement fuses are inexpensive, costing around $10.
