The 2001 Honda Accord is equipped with a chipped key, containing a transponder chip that works with the security system to prevent theft of your car by interacting solely with the ignition system. This chip, located in the plastic portion of the key, emits a unique RFID signal recognized by the ignition cylinder. In the event of losing your key, a replacement must be created and programmed specifically for your car's Electronic Control Unit (ECU), as an incorrect or absent signal will prevent the vehicle from starting. The transponder key does not affect the door or trunk locks in any way.
