In 2014, the Ford Focus had a major recall because of an issue with its body control module (BCM), a digital system that oversees many of the car's functions and features. The problem stemmed from a glitch in the initial firmware of the 2014 Focus, causing the vehicle to malfunction by shutting off unexpectedly or experiencing premature failure. Ford responded by issuing an updated firmware for the Focus BCM, which can be updated at most dealerships. However, the recall left a negative impression on many customers.
The 2014 Ford Focus was included in recall 19v515000 due to some vehicles missing the necessary PCM update.
