The 2018 Toyota Corolla has been using a timing chain since 1998, instead of the previous timing belt. The chain is located inside the engine, ensuring that it usually does not require replacement and is expected to last as long as the vehicle itself. Unlike a timing belt, which is external and typically needs replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, the chain in the Corolla should only need inspection every 150,000 miles or so. In the rare event that the chain needs replacing, a new one can be purchased for approximately $50 to $140.
The 2018 Toyota Corolla is equipped with a timing chain instead of a timing belt, which means you won't need to replace it because timing chains are designed to last for the entire lifespan of your car's engine.
