Maintaining the oil on a 2018 Volkswagen Passat equipped with the 2.0 L 4-cylinder motor is a straightforward task if you have the correct equipment. To begin, elevate the vehicle to access the lower engine shield. The shield is secured by eight T-20 Torx screws at the front and three T-40 Torx screws at the back. After removing the shield, the oil drain plug is located at the base of the oil pan. The Passat features a plastic oil pan with a unique honeycomb design. The plastic drain plug requires a flathead screwdriver for removal. Place an oil drain pan underneath to collect the used oil. While the oil is draining, move to the engine area to change the oil filter, where you will need a 74.5-millimeter oil filter socket or an adjustable wrench. Replace the old oil filter cartridge with a new one. Once all the old oil has drained, reattach the drain plug and refill the engine with the recommended oil.
To perform an oil change on a VW Passat, you must take out the drain plug and oil filter, swap them out with new ones, and then refill the oil from the top.
