In a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, the cooling fan kicks in when you turn on the AC or when the engine becomes too hot. However, the car's Engine Control Module (ECU) will only activate the radiator fan once it receives information from the coolant temperature sensor located on the engine's cylinder head. If this sensor is faulty, it won't accurately detect the vehicle's temperature, and the ECU won't engage the fan. Repairing or replacing the coolant temperature sensor typically costs between $130 and $150 for parts and labor. Other potential causes of the issue include a malfunctioning thermostat that remains open, a damaged motor, shorted relays or fuses, or corroded wiring and connections. It's crucial to promptly diagnose and address these issues to prevent the car from overheating and suffering further damage.
