As you're driving your 2011 Ford Escape to work or the store on a rainy morning, you have trouble seeing through your windshield. When you try to activate your rear windshield wiper and it fails to work, there could be a couple of issues. If you notice the wiper blade trying to move but getting stuck, it might be a sign of a worn or broken blade. Replacing the blade typically costs between $8 and $22. However, if the blade is fine, the problem could lie with the wiper motor that may need replacing. Getting a new wiper motor can range from $40 to $90 for just the parts.

The most common issue causing the rear wiper on most Ford Escapes to stop working is a seized motor. The design can trap moisture, leading to the motor seizing. Repairing the motor involves removing it, but it's often tricky due to the fragile plastic nut that Ford used. If you're fortunate, you can successfully remove the nut without damaging the plastic. In one case with a 2009 model, I was lucky enough to do so and managed to clean and regrease the motor parts, ensuring it still functions after 2 years. However, in another instance with my 2011 Escape, I couldn't budge the nut by hand despite using WD-40. I didn't want to risk breaking the glass, so I resorted to an air impact gun, which, unfortunately, led me to order a new motor from Rock Auto.

The primary issue you may encounter with your windshield wiper system is a blown fuse.
