Nissan's Pathfinders are facing criticism for their electric steering system, which produces a loud whining noise during turns or at low speeds, attributed to a manufacturing flaw. Numerous drivers have reported this issue to the NHTSA, describing a high-pitched "whistling" sound from the power steering. In response, Nissan has released a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) directing dealerships to install an "insulator" on the power steering pump housing to reduce the noise. This TSB covers 2013-2015 Pathfinders and 2014 hybrid models, as well as 2013-2015 Altimas and the 2015 Murano.
The power steering noise in the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder is likely due to a defective power steering pump.
