Similar to other electronic systems in your vehicle, the cruise control has a fuse that will blow if there is a short circuit, safeguarding the system. When this happens, the cruise control stops working completely. The brake pedal switch activates the brake lights when you press the pedal. Since cruise control deactivates when the brake pedal is pressed, it is connected to the brake pedal switch. If the switch malfunctions, the car might falsely believe the brakes are on, preventing the cruise control from activating.
